A couple weeks ago, I went to Spain for the weekend to visit Emily. She's been doing a study abroad program in Madrid and, hey, why not go visit her! I had never been to Spain before and I was very excited, even though Madrid wasn't really on my list. I've heard amazing things about Barcelona, but didn't know much about Madrid. The trip turned out to be very interesting, even though (to paraphrase one of my favorite movies) Madrid is very beautiful but, in human terms, pretty cold. (Also in weather terms, it rained on Sunday!)
As the plane was descending over Madrid, I suddenly started having flashbacks of all the movies I'd seen that were set in Madrid! Apparently, I've actually seen kind of a lot. I didn't recognise anything from them though, because none of them were set in the center of the city.
Unfortunately, since I only had two and a half days in Madrid, I had to make some hard choices about what to see. So, I didn't actually go to the Prado or Reina Sofia museums. I have to leave something for next time, right?
Madrid is very beautiful, it has lovely little architectural flourishes everywhere. But the food is not awesome (seriously? salt-cured ham and manchego cheese is all you have?) and hardly anyone spoke English. The Metro is awesome though! So clean and convenient. (I am obsessed with subways.)
Okay, wait, I take it back about the food (only a little bit!) because I've just remembered that Emily and I had the best dinner ever: grilled ham and cheese sandwiches followed by churros con chocolate! Yummy. I will fully admit, though, that we cheated big time by eating Chinese food on Saturday and going to KFC on Sunday.

We had a very good time and I can't wait till Emily comes to Scotland this Saturday! And then on Tuesday, it will be off to Italy for us! Yay!

Spring in Glasgow
I know I shouldn't tell you this, because I'm probably jinxing it for the rest of the year, but ... the weather has actually been pretty nice recently.
It hasn't been so very cold recently, today it even warmed up to 52 degrees Fahrenheit! Of course, it was pretty cloudy. And then, on Tuesday, it was very lovely and sunny. My friend Helen told me that she heard on the news that Glasgow had ten full hours of sunshine! That's got to be some sort of record. Of course, it wasn't actually warm, it was just sunny. You see, that's the thing about Scotland. You can only have one bit of nice weather at a time. It's never sunny and warm; it can only be sunny and windy or sunny and cold or warm and raining.
However, it is beginning to seem as though spring has sprung. By 'spring,' I mean that now the sun is shining when it rains!
Since I've said it out loud, it'll probably snow again (like it did week before last!). But the daffodils are determined and hopefully the weather will continue to improve!

30 Cocktails is A LOT of Cocktails.
I finally have a working computer again, yay! In recent news, I am back from Madrid, very exciting stuff. Emily and I had a good time, I'm hoping to put the pictures up at the weekend. I can't wait for her to come to Scotland, it's going to be so fun!
As I mentioned previously, my team won the pub quiz (we may have cheated with the help of the quizmaster - I admit nothing!) and our prize was 26 magnificent cocktails. Last Thursday, we collected our winnings and I will say this: even for seven people, that is an excessive amount of cocktails. And it was even more excessively excessive because the barmaid kept forgetting to mark off the ones she'd already given us, so we ended up with at least 30 cocktails, plus some free wine. They were very delicious though and we all had an excellent time! Here are some of the pictures:

Kim has a really cool camera and it can pick out certain colors and highlight them.
So, Kim and Joanna both bought feather pens as a joke and so naturally we had to use them at the quiz.
And take many many pictures involving the feather pens.
Cocktails and feather pens make for some craziness!
All in all, we had a very great time, even though we lost the quiz that night! And then of course, I got up at 6:30 the next morning to catch my plane to Madrid.
